The Heileen series is known for including positive representation through queer themes and options. The first game in the series—Heileen: Sail Away—has three romantic endings for the player-character, who is a woman: a man/woman relationship (which is very easy to achieve); an implied romantic woman/woman ending (which is harder to achieve); and an explicitly romantic woman/woman ending (which is even harder to achieve).

Heileen 3: New Horizons offers an expansion pack that allows for same-gender romance options for both women in the first game, Ebele from Heileen 2: The Hands of Fate, and a woman pirate who also briefly appears in the second game. Queer themes are present in Heileen: A Trip to Bavaria and Heileen 2: The Hands of Fate.
